Butterfly and Pollinator Kit
Common name: For the Butterflies
Our beginner pollinator kit offers gardeners an opportunity to add a few key species to host and feed critically important pollinators and spread native plants to areas that they have disappeared. We offer these plants to cover roughly 45 sq. feet on 18 inch centers in as full sun as you can get them. This kit can get a bit tall, with plants reaching 48 to 50 or more inches, but can be used for many garden flower needs as it will bloom for most of the summer and into the fall.
We include the following species depending on availability. Substitutions may be necessary from time to time. Substitutes are chosen based on site suitability as well as general aesthetic and bloom time. Of course we also keep the pollinators in mind!
- (3) Little Bluestem- Schizachyrium scoparium
- (2) Common Milkweed- Asclepias syriaca
- (3) Butterfly Weed- Asclepias tuberosa
- (2) Common Mountain Mint- Pycnanthemum virginianum
- (3) New England Aster- Symphyotrichum novae-angliae
- (3) Prairie Blazing Star- Liatris pycnostachya
- (2) Wild Bergamot- Monarda fistulosa
