Pycnanthemum virginianum

Common name: Mountain Mint

Native plant

Despite the name, Mountain Mint is a common prairie plant.  It has small white flowers that appear in clusters at the top of the plant in mid summer, lasting about a month.  Although flower buds are abundant on each plant, only a few bloom at the same time, making the blooming display rather inconspicuous.  As with most mints, the leaves and stems have a strong mint aroma when crushed or rubbed.  This plant is much less aggressive than other mints but will seed readily if not deadheaded.
