Vernonia missurica
Common name: Missouri Ironweed
Missouri Ironweed is a tall, upright prairie plant. Each plant is topped with a cluster of showy purple to magenta flowers that bloom late summer to early fall and last about a month. Although not an aggressive spreader, it will spread somewhat through reseeding and rhizomes to form small colonies under ideal conditions.
