Symphyotrichum puniceum
Common name: Swamp Aster
Swamp Aster has light to dark purple flowers with yellow centers that are on the large size for an aster. It is a fast growing, water-loving plant. As with most asters, it blooms late summer to early fall, lasts for about 2 months, and attracts a wide range of bees, butterflies and other pollinators looking for their last bit of nectar and pollen for the season. Lower leaves can turn brown during hot summer months, so this plant works best in the background of plantings.
