Symphyotrichum lateriflorum

Common name: Calico Aster

Native plant

Calico Aster produces panicles up to 10 inches long and 6 inches wide covered in numerous small, white, daisy-like flowers.  As with other asters, it blooms late summer to early fall, lasts 1 to 2 months, and attracts a wide range of bees, butterflies and other pollinators looking for their last bit of nectar and pollen for the season. This plant prefers shade to part shade conditions but will tolerate sun if soil moisture is maintained.  Can be trimmed late May early June for shorter plants.
