Symphyotrichum laeve
Common name: Smooth Blue Aster
Smooth Blue Aster produces large panicles of light blue to light purple flowers at its terminal end with smaller panicles protruding from axils below. Each individual flower is up to an inch in diameter. As with most asters, it blooms late summer to early fall, lasts 3 to 4 weeks, and attracts a wide range of bees, butterflies and other pollinators looking for their last bit of nectar and pollen for the season. It has attractive blue-gray, smooth foliage, and is adaptable to most garden conditions. Will spread prolifically by seed.
