Staphylea trifolia
Common name: Bladdernut
Bladdernut is a large shrub with white bell-shaped flowers that occur on panicles in May. The seed is a 1-1.5 inch bladder-like capsule. The capsule remains on the branch a month after the leaves fall. When shaken or blown by the wind, the seeds rattle in the capsule. Bladdernut does best in good garden soil with full sun to light shade.
