Scirpus atrovirens

Common name: Dark Green Bulrush

Native plant

Called dark green bulrush, and it is as dark green as I’ve found in nature. Thrives in standing water and is one of the most common wetland, rush-like plants topped only by cattails and some invasive species. The habitat value of this plant is very high, with wetland birds/fowl and other creatures of this habitat prizing the seed as a primary late summer food. If you have wet areas and are looking for an interesting habitat builder, then this plant is for you.
