Rain Garden Kit
Common name: For Wet Yards
Increases in spring rains and associated flooding and drainage problems have made rain gardens very popular. They reduce stormwater runoff while providing habitat for pollinators and birds. The flowers in this kit will start opening in late spring and bloom well into late summer. It will cover an area rougly 45 sq. ft and can tolerate standing water for over a week. We recommend that you plant these 14 to 18 inches on center when the soil is moist.
We include the following species depending on availability. Substitutions may be necessary from time to time. Substitutes are chosen based on site suitability as well as general aesthetic and bloom time.
- (3) Brown Fox Sedge- Carex vulpinoidea
- (3) Great Blue Lobelia- Lobelia siphilitica
- (3) Blue Flag Iris- Iris virginica shrevei
- (3) Swamp Rose Mallow- Hibiscus moscheutos (palustris)
- (2) Marsh Blazing Star- Liatris spicata
- (2) Swamp Milkweed- Asclepias incarnata
- (2) Swamp Aster- Symphyotrichum puniceum
