Pinus strobus
Common name: White Pine
White Pine is our fastest growing pine. It tolerates light shade, something the rest of the pines don’t. This pine is extremely susceptible to salt damage. Our White Pines are unclipped for a more natural appearance. I have planted many White Pine, and they demand the right site. They prefer good, well-drained garden soil and protection from the west wind. One of the best times to plant pines is late July to the first of October. They will do poorly if planted after October 1st on exposed sites. Also performs very poorly in subdivisions built in the last 15 years.
