Morus rubra
Common name: Red Mulberry
Red Mulberry is an understory tree that grows in mesic woods. The tree’s leaves are up to 8 inches across and long. The fruit is very edible and loved by birds. The non-native White Mulberry is a noxious weed that seems to sprout everywhere. Red mulberry, which is far less common, does not seem to be a noxious weed even though it produces a loft of seed. The bark was used by the Native Americans to make rope and cloth.
Contract grow only.
