Lobelia spicata

Common name: Pale-Spiked Lobelia

Native plant

Pale-Spiked Lobelia is somewhat daintier than the other, more well-known Lobelia species in our region.  Reaching  maximum heights of only 2 feet, it has very small, bright white flowers with the occasional blue tinge, arranged in long spikes at the top of the plant.  It blooms in mid summer for about a month, attracting mostly small bees.  It is a short-lived perennial, but will readily reseed.
