Justicia americana

Common name: American Water Willow

Native plant

American Water Willow is small, upright forb that is a great addition to a mucky or wet area of the garden or landscape.  Although it only reaches a maximum of 3 feet in height, the plant can make a big impact by forming large colonies in wet, sunny conditions.  A great choice for soil stabalization. Bloom period is a remarkable 2-4 months long, with blooms happening in constanct succession rathan than all at once.  Despite the implication from the common name, this plant is in fact not a willow but was named for the resemblance of the leaves to willows and the fact that it grows in water.
