Jeffersonia diphylla
Common name: Twinleaf
Twinleaf is a woodland ephemeral. Although slow to establish, this plant will form small colonies in shaded areas with rich, humusy soil. A single white, daisy-like flower emerges in early spring, but is very short lived. The unique leaves are glossy green and are nearly divided into two, looking almost like butterfly wings. Both the flowers and leaves disappear once hotter summer temperatures begin.
