Geum triflorum

Common name: Prairie Smoke

Native plant

A soft, hairy plant growing up to 12" tall with fern-like, pinnately divided, green leaves. The fruiting stage of Prairie Smoke wins admirers at first sight. Large stands of the plant create an effect that resembles smoke hovering close to the ground.  Blooms in spring to early summer, will spread slowly from its roots in well-drained, dry to wet-mesic soils. It prefers full to partial sun.
