Gentianopsis crinita

Common name: Fringed Gentian

Native plant

Blue flowers are displayed on the top of the slender stems of this wildflower. The name “Fringed Gentian” comes from the ruffled outer edges of the showy blooms. The flowers generally remain closed on cloudy days, but open wide as soon as the sun comes out. Fringed Gentian matures to just 12”  but can reach up to 24" in ideal conditions.  It prefers wetter soil conditions, and grows best in full sun. Bloom time is August, September, and October. This plant is now rare due to habitat loss. As with all threatened native plants, Fringed Gentian should never be picked or transplanted from the wild
