Gentiana alba (flavida)

Common name: Cream Gentian

Native plant

Cream Gentian has unique, glossy leaves and cream to light green flowers that are nearly closed at the tips. Blooming occurs in late summer and lasts a month to a month and a half. Flowers are pollinated almost exclusively by bumblebees.  Although its color and stature can cause it to get a bit lost in a crowded prairie, it can be a great specimen plant in the garden.  Prefers consistent moisture and cooler temperatures, and the leaves can become bleached or even scorched during the hot, dry summer months.
