Filipendula rubra

Common name: Queen of the Prairie

Native plant

Queen of the Prairie is a tall prairie plant with dramatic, bright pink, plume-like flowers.  Blooms occur early to mid summer and last about 3 weeks.  Leaves are bright green and large, offering their own interest to the garden. While the flowers are not fragrant, the leaves have a smell reminiscent of cucumber.  If planted in wetter conditions, this plant will spread by rhizomes and form small colonies.

Also available in quarts.
