Elymus virginicus
Common name: Virginia Wild Rye
The most common of our woodland ryes in the Chicago-land area. It can stand much more disturbed sites than many grasses and does well in drainage areas with light shade. Slightly bigger than the other two woodland ryes, but with smaller seed heads. Great plant for hard to grow places.
