Dry Prairie Kit
Common name: For Sandy & Dry Soils
For our beginner to more advanced gardeners we are offering a combination of plants for sandy and drier soils. The species we've selected for this kit will offer a surprising amount of pollinator attraction, especially the Rattlesnake Master. Featuring a wide range of blooms, this kit flowers from the end of May through late Summer. It covers roughly 45 sq. ft of ground in most sunny, well-drained gardens and yards. It is not a great mix for steep slopes but can help stabilize, though it may not be aggressive enough to hold soil without extra ground cover.
We include the following species depending on availability. Substitutions may be necessary from time to time. Substitutes are chosen based on site suitability as well as general aesthetic and bloom time.
- (3) Little Bluestem- Schizachyrium scoparium
- (3) Pale Coneflower- Echinacea pallida
- (3) Rough Blazing Star- Liatris aspera
- (3) Wild Petunia- Ruellia humilis
- (2) Rattlesnake Master- Eryngium yuccifolium
- (2) Sand Coreopsis- Coreopsis lanceolata
- (2) Nodding Onion- Allium cernuum
