Desmodium canadense

Common name: Showy Tick Trefoil

Native plant

Showy Tick Trefoil is a spike of bright pink to cheer the eye and feed the bees. (As well as fixing a bit of nitrogen on the side) In nature look for it along, but rarely in, wet and moist areas. I have found in in black soil prairie, usually in pan areas that get wet and then dry down. Showy and vivdly pink it growes best with other species of similar size and singular plants may sprawl. It can grow quickly in good soil and has a fairly deep taproot.
