Asclepias incarnata

Common name: Swamp Milkweed

Native plant

This milkweed has deep pink to mauve flower umbels sitting atop sturdy stems with smooth, lance-shaped leaves.  It is less aggressive and shorter than Asclepias syriaca, but suitable for nearly as many growing conditions.  It has a bunch growth habit, and its rapid growth rate allows it to fill in quickly in the landscape. It prefers wet areas, but is tolerant of drier conditions as well.  As with all milkweeds, it is a host for the Monarch caterpillar and many other pollinators.
