Arisaema dracontium
Common name: Green Dragon
The Green Dragon is one of the more curious flowers of our local woodlands and savannas. It is a relative of Jack-in-the-Pulpit and grows under similar conditions, but really couldn't be more different in appearance. The flower is held on its own stalk in a tight little bundle with a long, bright yellow “tail”. The leaf is also an cool piece of botanical architecture, looking like a crescent moon with leaflets sticking out at right angles from the blade. The flower fades in August but the leaf will remain visible until October.
