Ammophila breviligulata

Common name: Beach Grass

Native plant

One of the icons of a beach visit and a green wave in the wind as it blows off the water. It has a very distinct look with fine blades of dark green and tight seed heads that remain for months. Found throughout the Great Lakes region in a narrow band where dunes and very sandy soils are present. It spreads rhizomatously in these soils helping to build up organic material paving the way for other species making it a important stablizer.

We grow this strictly on a contract basis as it has very specific site restrictions.
