Acorus americanus
Common name: Sweet Flag
At first glance, this wetland plant looks a lot like an iris, but on closer inspection, the finer blades and interesting cone-like flowers set this plant apart. We've found it in both healthy and disturbed moist areas throughout the Chicago-land area. The flowers are a greenish white and set very low on the plant. A very nice plant for foliage in a wet garden.
