Blackhaw Viburnum prunifoliumThe big viburnum. It's the most tolerant of a wide range of site conditions than any other we grow. Blooms with white flowers in May, followed by the dark rose fruit that changes to blue-black in the fall. Birds relish the fruit. Blackhaw is one of the more shade-tolerant viburnums. The branches are perpendicular to the stem, unlike most other vase-shaped viburnums. The shape and large size provide an excellent specimen plant as well as a good screen. One of the best clipped hedges, along with Cornelian Cherry (Cornus mas) and Burning Bush (Euonymus alatus).
