Bladdernut Staphylea trifoliaA night bloomer, this plant is pollenated by moths. Likes good garden soil just as well as a flood plain. Large shrub with white bell-shaped flowers on panicles in May. The seed is a 1-1.5 inches bladder-like capsule. The capsule remains on the branch a month after the leaves fall. When shaken or blown by the wind, the seeds rattle in the capsule. Bladdernut does well in good garden soil with full sun to light shade. Yellow fall color.
