Wafer Ash
Ptelea trifoliata

Great waste area screener, smells greeat in the spring. To be or not to be a tree? Multi-stem plant that grows to 15 feet tall. Will grow in half-day to full sun. Wafer Ash is a pioneer species and can grow on very tough sites. Part of the citrus family Rutaceae. Flowers, leaves, and fruit are aromatic. The wafer-like seed head stays on the branches for part of the winter. Pioneers used the seed as a substitute for hops, hence another common name, "Hop Tree".
