Butternut Juglans cinereaVanishing walnut cousin, much finer in appearance. This native is also known as white walnut. It is similar to black walnut, but smaller. The nuts are milder in taste than black walnut. Grows on good garden soil but is often found on moist sites in the wild. Prefers full sun. Butternut is becoming less common in the wild because of a life threatening fungus.
