Prairie Crab
Malus ioensis

The native, light pink flowering crabapple that graces our natural areas in late April and early May. The tree has large green apples that are relished by wildlife during the winter months. The tree will sucker some and create thickets, so its use as a screener and in shrub borders is best. It is somewhat susceptible to apple scab, a disease that causes spots on the leaves and early defoliation of the plant.
