Sassafras Sassafras albidumHas a underrated spring flower and interesting growth habit. Cut stems tast great. The mitten, ghost and football-shaped leaves are a Sassafras tree's trademark. Aromatic leaves and roots from which tea, candy, and root beer are made. Excellent fall color of yellow, orange and red. Prefers full sun and good garden soil. The brown bark is deeply furrowed and ridged. Sassafras does sucker, but I have not seen much of a problem with this in my 15-year-old trees.
