Blue Ash Fraxinus quadrangulataSquarre stems and purple spring flowers. This is another ash that does not produce much in the way of seed. I have seen only 3 or 4 seed crops and none in the last 4 years. Blue ash has a unique 4-sided stem on new growth, hence the name quadrangulata (4-sided). Native habitat is high and dry, frequently near limestone outcroppings. Adaptable to high pH and drought conditions. Fall color is pale yellow. Slower growing than white or green ash.
